Bali by Region — Does It Rain the Same Everywhere?

The island-wide averages above are a good starting point, but Bali's weather isn't identical from coast to coast — elevation and coastline shape matter more here than the calendar does.

• South coast (Kuta, Seminyak, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua): the driest, sunniest part of the island and where most first-time visitors stay. Consistent surf, the biggest crowds, and the most built-up tourist infrastructure.
• Ubud and the central highlands: noticeably cooler and greener thanks to the elevation — expect a few degrees below the coast and more frequent short showers feeding the rice terraces and jungle. Popular for yoga retreats and a slower pace, less so for beach time.
• North coast (Lovina): drier and calmer than the south, with black-sand beaches and much thinner crowds — a common choice for travellers who've already done the south coast once.
• East coast (Amed, Candidasa): generally the driest corner of the island, popular for diving and snorkelling thanks to clearer water and less development than the south.

A few dates are worth knowing before you book, regardless of which month you're targeting for weather:

• Nyepi (Day of Silence) — Bali's most important date to plan around, not a weather one. Usually in March, the entire island shuts down for 24 hours: no flights in or out, no lights after dark, and visitors are required to stay off the streets and inside their accommodation. Check the exact date before booking travel that month.
• Galungan and Kuningan — recurring twice a year on the 210-day Balinese calendar (dates shift each time), when the island fills with temple offerings and decorated bamboo poles (penjor) lining every road — a striking time to visit, though some businesses run reduced hours.
• Bali Arts Festival — a month-long celebration of Balinese dance, music and craft in Denpasar, typically June-July.
• Peak crowd season — July-August (Northern Hemisphere school holidays) and the Christmas/New Year fortnight both bring the highest prices and the busiest beaches and restaurants of the year — book well ahead if travelling then.
• Quieter, still-good-weather windows — April-June and September typically combine good weather with noticeably thinner crowds and lower prices than the July-August/December peaks.
